How to Care for Your Boards

 

 

You’ve invested in a genuine, hand made wood product. It is important to take good care of your products so they will last a life time!

Cleaning 

Boards should be hand washed, and not immersed in water for long periods of time. Just wipe them down with warm soapy water and rinse. Dry your boards or let them dry naturally by standing them up in your sink drain rack.

Do NOT put your your boards in a dishwasher! It will cause warping and cracking.

Some foods such as berries or beats can cause staining or discoloring. Cut a lemon in half, and add some salt or baking soda to the cut side. Gently scrub the board with the lemon. Then wash and dry as usual.

If the board develops a smell, disinfect it with white vinegar and dry. Then wash and dry. Some foods can leave excessive oils which can can be absorbed by adding some baking powder, letting it sit to absorb the oil, and then cleaning off the baking soda.

Refresh Your Board 

If your board is looking dull, becomes a lighter color, or looks dry, add a small amount of food safe mineral oil to the board and rub it in with a damp cloth. Rub and buff with the wood grain. There are also many brands of oil mixtures available that are created just for this purpose.

If there are many deep cuts in your board, you can sand the board with 220 or 320 grit sandpaper. Wipe off the sawdust, wash, and condition the board with food safe oil.

Do not place extremely hot items on the boards as it may cause burn marks or discoloration.
